As a first time voter, I had mixed feelings about this election.

I declared myself as an independent and never thought I would get involved with politics, since I see and experience the economic crisis that truly is affecting everyone, I have started to pay more attention to the daily news and tried to find out how we got into this situation.

After I realized it was the leader of our country, George W. Bush's rule that's been the main source of the problems, I started to focus on the two presidential candidates: Barack Obama and John McCain. Since I turned 18 in September, I was thinking I might have a chance to let my voice be heard by voting. I hoped that my vote would allow me to help pick the person that will lead America.

To tell the truth, I was going to vote for independent candidate Ralph Nader at first, because I thought neither McCain nor Obama would be a good president. Based on the debates, I did not see the potential for them to have a real plan to solve our economy's problems. McCain and Obama both announced their intentions to help American by restoring the job opportunities and bring prosperity back to the country, but they were too broad on this issue.

Plus, I personally do not like McCain because he said he will not let American soldiers leave Iraq and will not negotiate with our "enemies. "

As we all know, the Iraqi war is an unnecessary war and is costing so much money that it's a major factor in the economic troubles plaguing the United States, and the world.

In addition to money, the war sacrifices thousands of young American soldiers.

Obama, on the otherhand, has very little experience as a U.S.senator and little experience in dealing with foreign countries. These are the two major reasons that I did not want to vote for either of them in the beginning.

However, as election day came closer and closer, I cam to understand that Obama has more useful plans and better statements of helping America get back on the right track. Also, since I knew that Ralph Nader would not win the election, and given the fact that I didn't want John McCain to win, I voted for Barack Obama, thinking he might be a better recipient of my vote.

After I voted yesterdady and saw the results on the news, I am so excited and looking forward to seeing a better future for America under Obama¢'s leadership.

well thought out... i was an obama supporter before he even ran, but i was leery of his experience.

but when i read about abe lincoln's, i was like palin and obama both have more experience than lincoln did before he went into office and he became one of our greatest pres.

bush had a ton of experience, did that help? no, so it came down to judgement.

plus, i read both of their plans and watch each debate and follow the campaign trail like crazy, obama's plan was better, although im not supportive of a tax increase on the rich, especially in this failing economy. i thought about what powell said, that we also dont want to create a bigger deficit and mccain's tax cuts for the rich was idiotic. not that im against it but if you heard him argue why the rich should not have tax cuts and the middle class needs it more back in the days when he ran, i was flabbergasted.
