After a long and exhausting 110 minutes of soccer, Logan’s Gabe Stange lifted the Lady Colts on Thursday night to the 3-2 victory.
Logan and Washington both played solid defense throughout the first half as the score was knotted at 0-0.
But the scoreless trend would not continue. Logan star Chris Garigan scored in the opening minutes of the second half as the Lady Colts took the early 1-0 lead.
The lead would not last long. About ten minutes later, Washington’s Paige Diamond netted a goal off of a breakaway to tie up the contest at 1-1.
During the shootout frames, both teams had two goals scored after four rounds. After a Washington missed shot to open to the fifth round, Logan’s Gabe Stange came up and scored the game winning goal in the lower right corner of the net. The team busted out from the bench to celebrate the victory.
“We have to play with heart,” said Logan Coach Villasenor. “Washington is a great team. They are very hard to beat."
Colts’ net minder Angelina Pascual made four saves on the night and Washington countered with a pair of goalkeepers, Jennifer Smith(2 saves) and Megan Kufeld(4 saves). Logan outshot Washington 14-9.
The Girls Soccer team have shocked the entire league in the playoffs thus far. They have knocked off two juggernauts in postseason action, Washington and Newark Memorial. Both teams combined for a 17-2-5 mark during the regular season.
The Lady Colts are a win away from advancing to the NCS 3-A playoffs. They will face-off against Newark on the road on Friday to close out the Shaughnessy playoffs and decide who will advance to NCS.
