During the summer before the 07-08 school year began, the school board ratified Logan’s decision to change the time frame in which school begins and ends. The time was changed from its former 8:00 a.m.-2:50 p.m. to its current 8:40am-3:30pm.

This decision was made in part because the administration said they believed that giving more students more time to rest in the morning would decrease tardies and hopefully give the students more time to wake up before coming to class. This has resulted in both negative and positive outcomes.

On a positive note, most students appreciate being able to sleep in for a while longer. Also, some students have had an easier time staying awake in class and getting to school on time. Furthermore, there is more time for breakfast and preparation for the day. All of these newly available privileges are a great addition to our daily lives, but for every good thing, there are also bad.

Some of the more negative affects on students have a large impact. For those who have jobs, work schedules that began at 4:00pm now have to be pushed back or strained to make. Also, some students are flustered with the time difference because of their personal schedules for homework and chores. Because of this time change, city bus schedules and the time frames that parents or guardians are available to pick their kids up is affected. For others who have after school activities, are still at school from 5:00pm and beyond.

Because the school’s schedule has changed, both positive and negative aspects have derived from it. Whether this change was for the better or for otherwise is in the opinion of the students and its affect on their academic and personal lives.

Exactly why this year's schedule sucks.

Strangely enough, I think I am getting less sleep this year than usual. I get to school like 30 minutes before zero period (because the city bus I take only comes once an hour) and I do homework. Also because of the schedule, I get out later with sports and stuff. This is probably the first year that I've actually fell asleep in class. I'm sure there are many people that like this new schedule, I am just not one of them. =)

I like your quote David, it's good advice to everyone.

I wake up the same exact time as last year with LESS time to get ready for school. They should have just stayed with the old schedule, I see no GOOD outcome with this.

i agree, nice quote David.
