“Providing nutrition services is a critical element of public education, especially given the number of students whose learning is affected because they don’t eat well at home or because they are struggling with obesity,” Superintendent Dr. Pat Jaurequi said. “Ms. Nava has the experience and the leadership ability to help us provide the highest level of nutrition services.”
Ms. Nava, a registered dietitian with a bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition from Northern Arizona University, joins New Haven from the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District, where she served as Nutrition Education and Operations Manager.
“I truly believe an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” Ms. Nava said. “I will bring my excitement, enthusiasm and expertise as a registered dietitian and director to our nutrition program by continuing to run a sound program. We will integrate nutrition education into the classroom, in alignment with teaching standards, and we will build positive relations through community partnerships.”
Ms. Nava previously served as Director of Child Nutrition and then Director of Fiscal Services in the Alameda Unified School District. She also worked as Menu Planning and Training Specialist in Oakland Unified and as Assistant Food Services Director in Tucson Unified.
Ms. Nava is married with two sons, ages 5 and 2.
