For the third in the series of Spirit Week skits, the Freshmen delivered a skit deemed confusing by many audience members.

The set up was plain: the only way one could tell where the scene was taking place was because of a single sign. They even had technical difficulties, especially with their simple backdrops. There were many cast members in the Class of 2010’s skit compared to the Juniors, but fewer than the Sophomores. With all those members we would have thought they could have come up with a more original storyline. It was difficult to catch the lines that were said to introduce the plot, which is what led to confusion and the reason why we could not hear the names of the characters.

“[Their story] had nothing to do with their theme. I thought they were going to be in bathrobes,” said Junior Jenna Garard. The only relation in their play to their theme was when they played the song, “So Fresh, So Clean" by Outkast.

One piece of the skit that set it apart from the others seen so far was that it actually had live singing. Though the part that the live singing was for seemed a little unnecessary, it was nice to add in as the new girl and popular guy went on a date.

After the crowd realized that it was similar to the movie, Mean Girls, the rest of the story was predictable. The only major points that were different were that the main mean girl exposed her intentions right away by talking of a plan to get the new girl caught spray painting a part of their school. The new girl was supposed be smart and was expected to on the principal's honor role, but how smart could she be if she thought vandalism would get her popular?

After she got caught when the central mean girl snitched on her, the new girl became an outcast. But, somehow the problem was quickly resolved as the mean girl realized she actually like the new girl. The mean girl actually did what was right and confessed of her evil plan, but the new girl was still nice and praised the mean girl afterward.

Though the numerous amounts of members and volunteers in the cast showed they supported their class, it made it difficult to realize who was part of the focus point. Those in the background moved quite a bit and even the stagehands became a huge distraction. Each time a table or chair was brought, they would run and be welcomed with and eruption of cheers.

Because of the vandalism, their up-coming dance was canceled, but this led to the usual skit ending with of a dance number. This time, though, an audience member decided to show that they could do better by dancing in front of the stands. Most of the dancers seemed to be energetic, but s few seemed lost and were looking at others, which making them seem unprofessional. Maybe this was the reason why some students in the stand left early, or maybe they just wanted to beat the crowds out the door.

Overall, there wasn’t really anything special about the Freshman skit and it had nothing to do with their theme. There was even a rumor that they had only completed it yesterday and had one run through just before fourth period lunch. By the looks of it, and the fact that most of the skit was from a movie, that rumor could be believed as true.
