Ms. Davies, who served this year as a house principal at James Logan High School after three years as the assistant principal at Eastin Elementary School, will assume her new duties July 1. She will replace Brenda Lloyd, who requested a reassignment.
“Beth is a rising star in our District, and she’s very well prepared for her first principalship,” Superintendent Dr. Pat Jaurequi said. “She will inspire our students, their parents and our very hard-working staff at Hillview Crest, and I’m looking forward to what’s going to happen there in the next few years.”
Logan Principal Don Montoya said Ms. Davies was “instrumental in helping to shape and guide the professional-learning communities work being accomplished at Logan.”
“Her tremendous depth in curriculum knowledge and pedagogy helped us implement appropriate staff development and select specific areas of focus … in our process of establishing essential standards and benchmark assessments,” Mr. Montoya said.
At both Logan and in her previous position, at Eastin, Ms. Davies pioneered work with English Language Learners.
She is “extremely effective in influencing teaching practices and instructional strategies of staff to support second-language learners,” said Eastin Principal John Mattos, who noted that Ms. Davies was instrumental in a 53-point improvement over two years on Eastin’s Academic Performance Index scores.
Ms. Davies, who grew up in Walnut Creek, earned her bachelor’s degree at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, her teaching credential at St. Mary’s College and her administrative credential at Cal State Hayward. She spent nine years as a teacher in Oakley and San Ramon, then moved in 1999 to New Haven, where she taught kindergarten, second and fifth grade.
She and her husband, David, are the parents of four children: Melissa, 22, Jessica, 20, Matthew, 18 and Cassidy, 13. They live in Union City.
