Logan's Forensics team won the right to send at least 17 students to
the National Championships at the Golden Gate Speech Association's
National Qualifier March 13.

Fourteen invitations to the National Championships were up for grabs at the meet, held at Lowell High in San Francisco, and Logan students won all of them, shutting out the dozen or so other schools competing at the event.

About two dozen Logan students competed.

Students who placed first or second received invitations to the nationals. Logan students place first and second in every event. No Logan student competing at the meet finished behind anyone but another Logan student, according to Forensics coach and Language Arts teacher Tim Campbell.

"I was proud of my teammates," said Lisa Nguyen, a team member who attended but did not compete. "Their hard work really showed."

In the International Extemp event, Shefali Tandon and Janet Wee won passes to Dallas. A.J. Pasqua and Chris Nicholson won in National Extemp.

In "Duo," the Logan teams of Nathaniel Nguyen and Jeff Bogess, and Justin Kurup and Daniel Meghina took top honors.

In Oratory, Karen Joshi, Claire Vialle and Eric Trabuco came away
winners.

In "HI," Logan's Cameron Steele and Taron Grizzel won.

Logan's Austin Ashford, Tamara Wilson and Tran Ngo won the DI event.

This weekend's event determined who will go to the nationals in only the individual events. Invitations to the nationals in team events will be held by the Golden Gate Speech Association March 25 at College Preparatory High School in Oakland.
